There's More to the Story: a blog about LIFE, chronic illness, and Mental Health

I’m the loud and relentless "patient" voice and advocate they warned you about. I happen to have type 1 diabetes, ADHD, anxiety, OCD, PCOS, endometriosis, thyroid issues, asthma, allergies, lactose intolerance (and more), but there’s more to story.

So glad I got to be part of a camp friend’s special day. Grateful for years of friendship and KA-CHING. #gonnabreeajohnston
#diabetes, at my core- I hate you. I hate everything about you. What you do to the people I care about and me- your constant reminders- the money I spend on you. To the complications starting to squeeze their way into my life. And the roller coasters you bring into my life. Frankly, you love attention. To be the center of it. You’re a diva. But there are other things that have been higher on my priority list lately like my mental health, pcos & endometriosis, and finances. But you try to push your way to the front of the line. HOWEVER. I love the people and community that resulted because of you and saved me in the teen years and still support me now. HOWEVER. I am thankful for #frederickbanting and the discovery of #insulin so I can live thanks to science and privilege. I am grateful for advances and the like. I’m appreciative that it’s fine tuned my perseverance and all those buzzwords. BUT! This does not change how I feel about you. About how much I hate you. The fact that I have put up with you for almost 20 years (but you haven’t stopped me). I guess I’m trying to get at this- Happy World Diabetes Day to all the amazing people living with or supporting diabetes. 💙💙💙 (Too many people to tag- but not you diabetes. 🙅🏻‍♀️) Enjoy this pic of me performing with an insulin pump many years ago.
They fit! “Finally” tackling lids- first batch of the “easier” lids (andddd trying to be a little braver with trimming more off my pieces). #madebymindyjean #chronicillnessartist #chronicillnesspotter
